Severe weather warning

We’ve been advised that there is a severe weather event approaching the address listed on your car policy.

Keep yourself and your vehicle safe

In the event of severe weather, here’s some information on how you could prepare yourself and your vehicle:

  • The priority is to keep yourself safe, don't try moving your car if it's not safe to do so
  • Move your car to a safe location, ideally under cover. If it's parked outside, try to keep it away from water that could rise and from trees or hanging branches
  • If you're driving, look for a shopping centre with undercover parking, so you can shelter there with your car
  • Stay up to date with the progress of the event via local news and radio
  • If it’s safe to do so, keep your neighbours informed and lend a hand if they need help

How to protect your vehicle from hail

One of the most common claims after a storm is for hail damage. If you can't get your car to a covered location, here are some ways to help protect your car from hail:

Buy a hail protection cover - you can get these from most automotive retailers. Remember to keep it in your car at all times, so it's there when you need it.

Use bedding and pillows - if you're caught off guard, use blankets or bedding from around the house to help protect your car

Try using your car floor mats - if you're caught off-guard on the move, these could provide a little bit of protection for your windshield
