What is Drive Less Pay Less Car Insurance?

Everyday Drive Less Pay Less  Insurance is a flexible and cost-effective option designed for individuals who don't frequently use their vehicles or short trip travellers. It's designed for cars expected to be driven 15,000km or less per year.

Why choose Drive Less Pay Less Insurance?

Cost savings: Drive Less Pay Less could offer all the benefits of Comprehensive insurance, but you only pay for the kilometers you nominate, potentially saving on your premium.*

Comprehensive cover: eligible drivers can enjoy the same level of protection as Comprehensive Car Insurance, including coverage for accidents, theft, and damage.

Flexibility: you can apply to purchase kilometres up to a limit of 15,000km per period of insurance for an additional premium. Increase your kilometre limit throughout the policy period by updating your end odometer reading in My Insurance Portal.

How does it work?

1. Start Odometer Reading: when you start your policy, provide your car's current odometer reading.

2. Nominate kilometres: nominate the total kilometres you expect to drive during the policy period. This determines your "end odometer reading."

3. Coverage and premium: your premium is calculated based on your nominated kilometres, other risk factors and underwriting criteria. It could offer all the benefits of Comprehensive Car Insurance, but you only pay for the kilometres you nominate.*

4. Claims: if your odometer reading at the time of a claim is outside the nominated end odometer reading, you'll still have cover, but an additional "Outside Odometer Excess" of $1,000 will apply, in addition to any other applicable excesses.

Managing your end odometer reading.

The "end odometer reading" represents the maximum kilometres agreed upon for your policy period. Ensure this figure (as noted on your Certificate of Insurance) is accurate to avoid the  "Outside Odometer Excess".

Increasing your nominated kilometres online.

1. Log in: Register or login to My Insurance Portal with your account details.

2. Policy details: see your car insurance policy information, including your current "End Odometer Reading" in the My Policies section.

3. Edit policy: click on View Policy Details, then Edit Policy Details.

4. Increase End Odometer Reading: select the "Increase End Odometer" section and enter your new estimated kilometres .

5. Review premium: check the adjusted premium for your updated kilometres.

6. Confirm and pay: if you're satisfied with the changes, confirm and pay the adjusted premium if needed.

Important considerations.

  • Carefully estimate your annual kilometres to avoid exceeding your limit and incurring additional costs, such as the "Outside Odometer Excess." This is particularly important for short trip travellers who might occasionally take longer, unplanned journeys.

    • Regularly review and update your end odometer reading to ensure accurate coverage.

      • Contact us if you have any questions or need assistance with updating your policy.
