Heading Out on the Open Road? Here's the Deal with Rental Car Excess

Planning your next adventure behind the wheel? Renting a car is a great way to explore, but there's one little detail you might want to be aware of: rental car excess.

What is rental car excess?

Simply put, it's an amount you may need to pay if your rental car is damaged or stolen. It's essentially an out-of-pocket expense.

The good news: we offer cover

Our different travel insurance plans offer options for rental car excess coverage. This means that if you're involved in an accident or the car is stolen, Everyday Insurance can step in to help cover that excess up to a certain amount provided you meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the Product Disclosure Statement.

Travelling in Australia or Abroad?

  • Domestic Trips: Rental vehicle insurance excess option is available with the Comprehensive Domestic plan with payment of an additional premium. The standard limit per trip is $5,000, however you can choose to add up to $5,000* of additional cover for an extra premium.

  • International Trips: If you're heading overseas, our International Comprehensive and Frequent Traveller plans both offer rental car excess cover. Just like our domestic option, you can boost your coverage up to $5,000 for added protection.*

Everyday Insurance charges a premium for each $1,000 of additional limit you select. The exact cost will depend on your specific policy and travel details.

Important note

Remember, this cover is specifically for the excess  payable under a Rental Vehicle Agreement, by you as the nominated driver, to a rental vehicle company as a result of damage or theft to the rental car. It doesn't include any liability for damages or injuries caused to others while driving. Make sure you have adequate liability insurance for your destination to ensure you're fully protected.
