What is the cancellation cover?

The cancellation benefit is designed to reimburse you for the non-refundable costs of your pre-paid travel arrangements if you have to cancel or rearrange your trip due to specific unforeseen circumstances.

Which plans offer cancellation cover?

All plans have a cancellation benefit but not all allow you to choose the limit.

International Plans:

  • For our Comprehensive, Standard, and Frequent Traveller plans, the policy limit for cancellation or holiday deferment costs must be chosen at the time of purchase. This chosen limit will then appear on your Certificate of Insurance.

    • The Basic international plan has a pre-set limit for cancellation, $2,500 per adult.

Domestic Plans:

  • For all domestic plans, including the "Cancellation and Deposit" plan, the policy limit for cancellation or holiday deferment costs must be chosen at the time of purchase. This chosen limit will then appear on your Certificate of Insurance.

    • Domestic plans will cover you for travel within Australia for the non-refundable part of your pre-paid travel arrangements or additional travel, meals and accommodation.

What situations does cancellation benefit include?

What are the limitations and exclusions?

The cancellation option covers a wide range of unexpected events, including:

Illness or injury: If you, a travelling companion, or a close family member falls ill or gets injured before your trip, preventing you from travelling.

Natural disasters: If a natural disaster occurs at your home or your planned destination, making travel impossible or unsafe.

Unexpected work commitments: If you're unexpectedly called in for work or jury duty, forcing you to cancel your trip.

And more: The policy covers various other situations, such as transport accidents, and legal proceedings.

While our cancellation cover offers protection, it's important to be aware of some limitations and exclusions. For example, the cover may not apply if you cancel your trip due to:

  • Change of mind: If you simply decide you no longer want to travel.

    • Existing medical conditions: Unless you have declared them and received clearance from us.

    • Travel to high-risk destinations: As advised by the government.

    • Existing Medical conditions unless automatically covered on some plans, or any trip greater than 12 months in duration.

Subject to terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions. Benefit limit amounts vary by level of cover. Above is a summary only. Please read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), Financial Services Guide (FSG) and Target Market Determination (TMD) for full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions that apply.
